Message to Sunny: In loving memory of Sunny. Sunny was a sweet and happy Retriever mix.
Tell us about Sunny: Sunny's mom was feeling the loss of her father on the anniversary of his death when she saw a picture of a Beagle puppy needing a home. She felt that a dog would be perfect at this time in her life, and went to visit the puppy. When she got there, there were a lot of people who had also come to see the puppy and someone she spoke to asked if she had considered an older dog. As she considered this, she watched the Beagle puppy pee on every surface in sight, and decided instead to look for an adult. Sunny’s mom-to-be went to a different rescue that had two adults she wanted to meet. The first was quite large, and the second was a sweet girl named Jane. At that time, Jane was so timid that she peed the whole time she moved over to say hi. Despite that, her mom knew that this 1.5-year-old darling was perfect. As they drove home in a convertible with the top down, Jane seemed to glory in the sun and wind, so her mom changed her name to Sunny. Sunny ended up having Heartworm Disease and did need treatment. She had not been treated well in her previous home and the first time her mom tried to sweep, Sunny ran away in fear. Over time, Sunny came out of her shell. She loved to chase squirrels in her back yard and would even point at the wildlife. Sunny also enjoyed playing with her balls and was very gentle with her stuffed monkey toy. When her mom realized that Sunny got excited every time a dog walked past the house during Covid, her mom started taking her to doggie day care. Sunny loved it there and quickly became their greeter welcoming all new dogs. When Sunny started to suffer from kidney disease because of the damage caused by her Heartworm infection, her mom gave her special food for years. When Sunny's kidneys got worse, her mom gave her lots of love and fluids. When Sunny declined too much, her mom knew it was time to let her go. Sunny passed peacefully at home with her best friend, her mom, by her side.
