Message to Hiro: The absolute sweetest boy.
Tell us about Hiro: He was a “sorry we moved” gift to me when I was 7 years old. A family friend’s cat had kittens, and Hiro was the runt, abandoned by his Mama Cat. We took him in, and I was in charge of bottle feeding him and taking care of him. We were best friends, and he was the most unique, special tempered cat I’ve ever met— Like a human in a cat suit. He was good at cheering me up, laying on me and purring while I cried or was stressed. He acted like he understood everything I said, a very smart boy. Despite being the runt as a kitten, he grew BIG. He loved snacks— Especially deli ham, turkey, licking salt off crackers and especially butter. During Covid, he had a medical event that caused damage to his kidneys, which unfortunately took away many of his favorite snacks. But he stayed happy, taking his medicines and fluid injections like a champ. He loved to snuggle, spooning in bed, in sweaters, beneath blankets, and loved following us around. In 2021, they told us he only had about 6, maybe 9 months left to live… Obviously, he was stubborn. I threw him a “golden” birthday when he turned 17 on August 17th, 2024. Finally, old age and arthritis got to him, and despite how much it hurt to let him go, I know he was in pain and wasn’t happy anymore.
