Message to Charlie: On Sunday we said goodbye to our beloved Charles Bradley, our sweet Charlie. His final morning was spent peacefully with us, watching It’s a Wonderful Life and listening to his favorite music from Luke Combs and Post Malone. He was gentle and sensitive but incredibly strong, showing real courage throughout the past few weeks as he fought for his life.

Charlie was never “just a cat.” He was our companion, our comfort, and our best friend. We do not have children, and he filled our home with a kind of love some people may never understand.

He shared a special bond with Melissa. He helped her create her music albums, staying beside her during long hours of recording. Some of his happiest moments were spent sleeping and cuddling with his momma, a connection she will always hold close. She calls him her guardian angel, and his loss has left a space in our hearts that cannot be replaced.

Although he spent much of his life in the North Shore suburbs, Charlie was born and raised in Chicago. He traveled from the North Side to the South Side to visit his grandparents and loved every bit of the adventure. He especially enjoyed porch hangs and meeting the people in the Lincoln Square neighborhood, where he quickly became a familiar face.

Charlie loved sitting by the fire or relaxing in the garage with his dad while listening to music. Back to the Future Part III was his favorite movie, and he loved watching MMA fights with his dad, settling in like he understood every moment. He often climbed onto our neighbor’s garage roof, raising our anxiety until he wandered down or was found after a round of “Where’s Charlie?” Last night he enjoyed a bit of ricotta from a cannoli, one of his favorite treats.

Charlie was laid to rest peacefully in our home, and he will be cremated and brought back to us where he belongs.

We love you, Charlie. Thank you for every moment and every memory. You will always be part of our family. Rest in peace, sweet boy.

Tell us about Charlie: Charlie was named after the famous soul revivalist singer, Charles Bradley. He was a barn cat rescued by our family as a kitten.
