Message to Chi: This week I bid farewell to my beloved cat, Chi. Together we shared 17 years of loving companionship, and a deep bond and mutual affection that went far beyond words. Chi was playful, expressive, social, and loved by everyone she met. She had an outgoing and joyful disposition, a lyrical and expressive voice, and an exuberance for life that inspired me to feel more confident and loving towards myself. I was blessed to have her by my side through both my undergraduate and graduate degree programs in Oklahoma, and subsequent engagement and move to Chicago. She taught me so much about life, embracing the moment, and truly cherishing the ones we love. She lives on in our many joyful memories, and the enduring love I carry for her in my heart.
Tell us about Chi: Chi was a gift given to me by a dear friend who had trapped a spayed a litter of kittens that had turned up on her forested property in rural Oklahoma. One day, she showed up on my doorstep, an 8 week old kitten. We bonded from the moment we met. She was smart, alert, and understood and obeyed me when I spoke to her. She knew how to catch mice and birds, and could climb up and down trees skillfully. Chi had the most lovely little whisper of a meow when she was small, and she didn't develop a full voice until she grew to a year or so. Her coat was so soft, and had a beautiful pattern. She had a lovely curly tail. She had beautiful, expressive green eyes. She spoke many words with her body language and expressions. I truly believe she was my soulmate. Her favorite things included: long naps in the sun, hunting/chasing lasers and feather toys, getting a nice long brush, eating treats, and curling up next to me so I could pet her. She was very affectionate and social, and everyone always commented on how beautiful she was. She had incredible grace and dignity, love and kindness.
