Message to Fiona: Thanks for being our best friend Fiona. You were me, mom, and Mac's best friend - we will miss you everyday.

Tell us about Fiona: It was a beautiful Thursday evening in Chicago. My friends had a wine night planned, but I was torn—unsure whether to go or stay home. Then I remembered meeting Fiona just two days earlier, and I knew I was meant to be her person. CACC had asked that I bring my roommate, so she could meet our household.

Driving down Western Avenue, I hesitated, turned around twice, but the pull I felt from Fiona was stronger than any excuse. She was called Addy at the shelter, but I saw a princess. Pitbulls are often misunderstood—sweet and gentle, but misjudged. Fiona was my Princess Fiona from that moment. She sat with me, played fetch, and we simply waited until it was time to go home together.

That day changed everything. I forgot about the wine night because I had a new soulmate. Fiona and I headed to a house full of friends, eager to meet her. She woke up cold and scared but ended the day in a warm bed, surrounded by love. Her life had truly begun.

From then on, we spent every evening at Pulaski or Humboldt Park—rain or shine—playing fetch and enjoying each other’s company. Those moments grounded me and showed me how simple acts can bring immense happiness. Watching her run, splash in puddles, and smile with dirt on her face was pure joy. Her happiness was mine.

I will miss her every day for the rest of my life. Her memory is precious, and I will always cherish the love she gave me. Making her happy was my greatest joy because she deserved nothing less. Fiona was more than a dog—she was family, my best friend, my princess. I am forever grateful for the time we shared, and though my heart hurts, I know her spirit will always be with me.
