Message to Crosby: Last night we had to say goodbye to our sweet gentle hairy beast of a dog. "CROSBY" Our family is heartbroken and at the same time we know that the most loving thing we could do was release him from the pain and suffering he was experiencing. The last 2 weeks were really hard to watch and hope he could continue. Here are the words we read to him as he was about to leave this realm.

June 16, 2025 Tonight, we gather with full hearts and tearful eyes to honor the life of our beloved Crosby — our loyal companion, our gentle giant, and our friend.

Crosby was more than a dog. He was a quiet constant in our lives, a source of comfort, joy, and unconditional loveFrom the moment he came into our family on October 13, 2013, he seemed to know he was home. And we knew it too.

Because of his size, we lovingly called him “Pony.” And the name suited him. He was big in every way — not just in stature, but in soul. His presence filled a room without a sound. There was calm in him. A quiet grace. But there was also joy — especially when the snow began to fall.

Crosby loved the snow. It was his element. We watched him jump to catch snowflakes like a pup, eyes lit up, tail wagging in wide arcs. He would lie down in the snow and just stay there, content and still, as if it were the most natural and peaceful place on earth. Watching him in those moments, you could almost believe he was part of the snow itself — made for it, called to it.

But Crosby’s life didn’t start easily. He had a rough beginning in Texas. Before he came to us, he made a 15-hour journey to Chicago, suffering silently with a stick lodged in his upper palate, piercing his sinus cavity and reaching dangerously close to his left eye. It’s hard to imagine the pain he endured — but he never let it harden him. He survived. He healed. And from that moment on, he lived with a quiet strength that humbled us.

He was always friendly, even to little dogs, as if he knew they needed a safe space, but when they started yapping he would back away.

He had a face that told stories — of love, of hardship, of peace — and most days, that face wore a smile. A soft, knowing smile that somehow made you feel seen. He walked with us through the changing seasons of life — the laughter and the loss, the noise and the stillness. Always nearby. Always himself. Always Crosby.

It’s hard to let him go. But his love remains. It’s in the snowfall. It’s in the quiet corners of the house. It’s in every dog that finds safety and every person who remembers his smile.

He lived a long, beautiful life — 13, maybe 14 years. A survivor, a snow-chaser, a soul at peace. So here’s to Crosby. Our sweet boy. Our Pony. Thank you for everything — for every quiet comfort, every joyful flurry, every moment of grace. You were the best of us. You always will be.

Rest well, dear friend. You were deeply loved. And you always will be.

Tell us about Crosby: After we rescued the dog, no one in the family liked the name he came with. So we decided we needed to pick the perfect name. Since music is a huge part of our lives we said" let's name him after a favorite musician and be sure that this name would seem to fit with what we felt about the dog. The name we all agreed upon was "Crosby" named after one of our all time favorite singers, musicians and lyricists, David Crosby. Over the years people often asked us is he was named for the hockey player and a few times after Bing, but always when we would say David Crosby everyone said, of course.
