Ossy Name: Ossy

Message to Ossy: The best 4th of July sale happened in 2010 at a pet store in the north suburbs. My mom and I were running errands when we stumbled upon a pet store. As any sane 12 year old would do, I dragged my mother inside.

We looked at the puppies and with tears in our eyes, decided we were ready for a new adventure and a new member of our family. Two puppies caught my eye and I begged my mom to convince dad to come back all together.

Once we were together as a family, only one of the puppies was there. A furry little bundle, lying down in the hamster like enclosure, being toppled by his sister every time she bounced from one wall to the next. Clearly this puppy was meant for us, the sale part was just a bonus.

I am writing this note 16 years later, the week we said goodbye to Ossy, the best friend I have ever known. Our sweet boy was the most wonderful, funny, loving, bouncy puppy. Always ready for a treat and zooming around the house knocking down all the couch cushions. We will miss the walks, the snuggles, the clicking nails on the hard wood floor. The car trips, the naps, and his constant presence behind whoever’s cooking. Having him in our lives brightened, strengthened and compounded the love we share for each other.

We’ll miss you forever, Ossy. Thank you for the best 16 years.

Tell us about Ossy: His name was Ossy, because he was like a little bear and, “osito” is little bear in Spanish. Not sure when we added an “s” and changed the “i” for a “y”.
