Message to Maki: Maki was our first dog, my best friend. I never imagined I could experience unconditional love the way Maki loved us.
When we bought our first house in 2022, every room and every decision was made with him in mind. Looking back, I get mad at myself for scolding him when he tore up a brand-new bed or chewed through a new pair of headphones. I hate that we only had five years with him, and I wish I had spoiled him even more.
I’ll miss encouraging him up and down the stairs because he struggled on the hardwood floors. I’ll miss him lying on my wife’s chest while she laughed and gasped for air because he weighed 85 pounds. I’ll miss getting a great workout every time we played tug-of-war because he was such a strong boy.
You were the reason we chose to stay home instead of going out, or headed home early because we didn’t want you to be alone for too long.
It’s only been 24 hours since you’ve been gone, and I already miss your smell, your low growl whenever you heard the neighbors or saw someone walking by outside, and your loud snoring that filled the house at night.
Our home isn’t the same without you. We will never forget you, Bubba.
