Message to Klaus: Klaus always had to be right in the middle of every gathering, making sure he knew all the business and, of course, getting plenty of love from everyone around him. There wasn’t a treat in the world that he didn’t like. He loved to frolic around the yard and bark at the squirrels, as if it were his very important job. He loved his naps and would snore loudly, just as a good pug should. And he always had his favorite toy, Al the Alpaca, close by. Klaus taught us so much about the simple joys of life—to enjoy good food, to appreciate a long nap after a busy day, to be surrounded by the people we love, and, most importantly, to treasure those we hold close. He was more than just our dog. He was family, a constant source of love, laughter, and comfort. Our lives are better because Klaus was in them, and we will carry his memory—and all the love he gave us—with us always.
Tell us about Klaus: Klaus was born and adopted in Florida by Michael. He was named after Klaus, the First Mate in The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, because Michael always knew that was exactly who Klaus would be to him—his loyal first mate and companion through life. .
Klaus traveled with Michael from Florida to Colorado, where he joined him for college, and then back to Florida for law school. Eventually, the two made their way from sunny Florida to freezing Illinois. .
For his first few years, Klaus lived in a high-rise and quickly became a true city dog. But eventually, he moved into a house with a real yard, and he discovered just how much he loved having space to run, explore, and enjoy the outdoors. .
Not long after, Klaus met his mom, Gabriella, and got to witness the love that grew between Michael and Gabriella. He became part of their relationship and, eventually, their family. He also gained a younger dog sibling, Dolly the Corgi, who brought out the playful puppy in him all over again. .
Klaus was there for some of the most important moments in his parents' lives. He watched Michael and Gabriella get married, and he was there to welcome and meet his human baby brother, Mikey. .
For nearly fifteen wonderful years, Klaus was a constant companion, loyal first mate, beloved family member, and source of unconditional love. He traveled through different homes, states, and chapters of life with the people he loved most—and he was there through it all. .
Klaus lived a beautiful life, filled with adventure, family, love, good food, naps, and countless memories that will stay with us forever.
