Message to Casey: Sweet Casey, although you weren't with me that long, you will always have a place in my heart, and I will never forget you. You were a very special boy and much loved.

Tell us about Casey: Casey came to me as a foster dog through As Good as Gold Golden Retriever Rescue, along with his half-brother Cody. He was a lovely senior golden with a sugar frosted face and the sweetest personality. Everyone who met Casey immediately fell in love with him. His previous owner had passed away after a long illness, and with no one to look after them, his family made the decision that As Good as Gold was the best option for the boys. Casey and Cody first went to a different foster home, who gave them wonderful care for several months, but when their first foster family was no longer able to look after them, they came to live with me. Casey was 13 years old and had a number of health problems and a lot of medications, and I knew when I agreed to foster him that he might not be with me for very long. He was such a sweet boy that he quickly made a place in my heart. It was hard for Casey to get around due to arthritis in his hips, and he spent most of his days sleeping on a comfortable orthopedic dog bed in my sunny TV room where he could enjoy the fresh air and hear the birds singing outside and see all the activity in the house. Casey was a picky eater and gradually stopped eating altogether, although he would sometimes nibble on a little fresh salmon or steak if I hand-fed him. Although he was partially blind and deaf, he liked to know that I was close by and would bark when he wanted my attention - he sounded like a seal, which was very funny! After a few weeks, Casey got to the point where he was unable to stand up and go outside, and we made the difficult decision that it was time to let Casey go to the Rainbow Bridge. Dr. Molly from A Gentle Goodbye came to my home to help Casey on his journey, and she was just wonderful. Casey's brother Cody was able to be with him, which I think helped Cody understand what was happening, and we all stayed with Casey until he was safely across. I am so grateful to the wonderful kind people at A Gentle Goodbye for making Casey's final journey so calm and peaceful.
