Message to Appa: Appa was the sweetest dog who loved treats and just wanted endless love. He was emotionally intelligent in a way I’ve never seen in another dog, and followed us like a shadow. He was the very goodest boy and we are so lucky we got to be his parents. We will miss him everyday but we know he’s around in spirit, following us wherever we go.
Tell us about Appa: We adopted Appa in Alaska 5 and a half years ago. I saw his photo on the Fairbanks Animal Shelter website and knew immediately he was the one. We brought him home and he even move back to Chicago with us when we came back. He got his name from Avatar: The Last Airbender. There is a flying bison in it, and when we saw him, it just fit. He was such a goofy, loyal, and loving companion which was reflective of the character. His favorite things were treats, hugs (which he would give by stand on his back legs and wrapping his front legs around your waist), rolling in the grass, and long walks. We would walk together and we bonded uniquely that way. He was loving and didn’t have one aggressive bone in his body. He was our little misfit with endless love to give.
